The Institute for Mathematics & Education is holding a 2 1/2 day workshop for leaders implementing professional development on CCSS. I will be helping to run the workshop. I know this is short notice, but we have had a lot of demand for this and decided we should put something together. For more details, go to the Institute for Mathematics & Education.
Thank you! I registered, but I’m not clear on how are we to know if our registration was accepted and we can make plans to attend?
Is there any possibility for online participation?
I am excited to hear about this and would like to participate as well but I won’t be able to go to Tucson. I do foresee attending an event in the spring. I am very interested in providing professional development this summer for the teachers and administrators in the schools I support (approx. 20, k-5 schools and 3 middle schools) I am very interested is using the progressions and would value some collabration about this. Is anyone else doing something already who can share?
Brigette,
We have been offering facilitated discussion sessions with small grade bands of teachers around the progressions. We actually read the documents together and then discuss the information and implications.

I’m thrilled to see that you are going to offer some PD “FROM the math people FOR the math people”, but Arizona is so far away that the expense of airfare prohibits some of us from being able to access this amazing opportunity. Do you have any plans for offering this on the east coast at some point?
Thank you!
We might get there! Also, one of the things we hope to accomplish with these workshops is to “train the trainers”, that is, to increase the number of people around the country who can give PD on the Common Core. I’d also recommend keeping an eye on achievethecore.org for their immersion institutes. The first one was in New York and I would guess many of them will be on the east coast.
We missed the Tucson session and are trying to get into the N.O. May session, but are there plans for another here in Arizona?
