    I noticed that EngageNY uses set notation for solutions: {x real | x>0} Is it expected that Algebra I students recognize that or would x>0 suffice?

    That’s a curricular decision, not a requirement of the standards. Personally I’m with you … I think the set notation is too much baggage at this level.
